February 2026 Newsletter
From the Director: Greetings!
The weather has been bitterly cold, including wintry weather. Despite the frigid temperatures, snow and ice, Wake County Housing Authority (WCHA) staff and contractors are out in communities making improvements. During freezing temperatures only (32 degrees or below) we need your help with keeping your kitchen faucet at a constant, pin-sized drip. Please keep your community clean. Call in work orders. Public housing residents will not be charged for normal wear and tear work orders.
Ms. Karla Williams (Wake Forest) and Ms. Malinda Mitchell (Apex, Fuquay, Garner, Wendell, and Zebulon) are our new Property Managers. They are here to serve you and have started site and unit visits. They want to improve quality of life for you and your family.
Please clean your unit before service as we address matters that will make your unit safe, decent, and sanitary. Routine pest control service has started. Several units in Wendell and Zebulon will soon get new roofs. Plans are in the works for improved landscaping countywide.
NOW is the time to catch up on your rent. Those that have chosen to ignore letters and efforts to assist are in the process of being evicted. Do not let that be your family. Repayment agreements are accepted for residents that show that they are trying to catch up on past rent. Contact your Property Manager TODAY.
Allow the staff to help you by coming to upcoming resident meetings and events, paying your rent, and following your lease.

Black History in Housing - On April 11, 1968, the Fair Housing Act of 1968, was passed shortly after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination and race riots across the United States. The Fair Housing Act bans discrimination in the sale and renting of housing nationwide. No redlining. No poverty concentration. No steering. WCHA and public housing authorities nationwide each year must certify to the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that they will abide by fair housing laws. For more information, visit www.hud.gov
FSS Membership Drive - Contact the Administrative Office if you want to further your career, earn a diploma/degree or get your first home. The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is relaunching soon with a new coordinator and an energized push to help housing choice voucher and public housing residents accomplish self-guided goals while building an escrow account over five years. Through the Homeownership Program, HCV residents can purchase and maintain a home using their voucher!
