Public Housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly and persons with disabilities.
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers Federal aid to WCHA for residents at rents they can afford. HUD furnishes technical and professional assistance in planning, developing and managing these units.
Public Housing Minimum Eligibility Criteria. The applicant must meet the below listed minimum eligibility criteria:
Individual or family with household income less than 80% of the local area median income.
Meet citizenship/eligible Immigration Status.
Provide requested documents such as copies of Birth Certificates, Social Security Cards, Current Photo ID, Proof of Income, etc.
Criminal and credit background reports will be obtained for all adults (18 years and older) household members. All Criminal Report data must be in compliance with WCHA's Admissions and Occupancy Policy.
Satisfactory history of meeting financial obligations, especially rent and utilities.
The Housing Authority of the County of Wake closed the Public Housing Wait List on April 30, 2023.
Applications will not be accepted after April 30, 2023.
The Wake County Housing Authority does not have Emergency Housing.
